Santa Catalina de Colonche - Wooden church built in 1700
Follow the ruta del sol in Santa Elena province in Ecuador. About half-way between Ballenita and Montanita you turn and go a few kilometers inland and you come to Colonche. This wooden church began construction in 1700 which makes it a unique landmark in Ecuador for a wooden church. Two niños in 1982 and 1997 caused major damage to the guayacán wood because of the standing water. Renovations are ongoing and this is an awesome location to visit.
